A Fans View
Entering the stadium, the place they call Croke Park To watch the ranger babies leave their mighty mark A flutter in my stomach, a feeling I could get sick Who’s the first fifteen, who the heck did Barrack pick
The ref is getting ready, the lads are in position I pray to God Almighty we can finish off this mission The butterflies are forgotton, I find my voice instead To will our men forward, score a point & go ahead
Himself above answered, nine minutes & four points up I glance a little sideways & eye up that shiny cup Our fans are getting louder, the chants are coming fast The hard tackles are coming in, do we have the legs to last
Twenty three minutes in, the score is five points all My heart is doing ninety, I’m up the bloody wall We’re edging close to half time, Stevo slots one home Time for a quick smoke, stretch the legs & have a roam
All the talk at half time is how do we still have Dash But secretly I think to myself, that guy deserved a bash First half all discussed, I head on back to my seat We are here for the victory & not to suffer defeat
Second half is dodgy, the game too close to call Do we rise to the occasion or on our arses do we fall Fourteen minutes from time, the score all level & square I put my hands to my head & pull out clumps of hair
Skellig are two points up, there’s pressure at the back I forgot my damn inhaler, I’m having an asthma attack Mitchells throw one over, I think I’m going to faint Who do I pray to now, Jesus whats the name of that saint
I never heard the whistle, just saw our lads go spare Another piece of silverware, to go with the other pair I compose myself a little, in a sea of green and gold History has been made, a future story to be told
Cheering on the lads to collect their shiny prize Watching them one by one, tears well in my eyes That’s a special memory, never to leave my brain Dare I dream to wonder, can we ever do it again
The future now looks bright, there is no team we should fear I wouldn’t mind going to Croker, this time again next year Maybe in forty years time, just like the team of sixty eight We’ll have another dinner dance to remember and celebrate
Massive thanks to Barrack, he’s Mourinho in disguise Our very own ‘Special One, the man that led our boys Applause for Brendy Murphy & Dermot Keating as well These are the three wise men, that made the Rangers gel
To all our brilliant players, thanks for the dedication For all the hard work & the sheer determination Hold your heads high, be proud & stand up tall All Ireland Junior Champions, masters of the round ball
